Sugarloaf Mountain

I was told not to miss Sugarloaf Mountain for my trip to Rockville. Well, i do agree with that. The mountain view is just spectacular. Feel peace and calm visiting in cold freezing winter. It's the outskirt and i dare not travel there without any GPS.

Geologically, Sugarloaf is known as a monadnock, a mountain that remains after the erosion of the surrounding land. Here, that process took approximately 14 million years. The rugged cliffs on the summit are composed primarily of quartzite, the predominant type of rock on the mountain.

The dominant tree species on Sugarloaf are the oaks of both red and white groups. These trees are being threatened by oak decline, a result of several factors of which the introduced gypsy moth is a part. Other trees include black gum, tulip poplar, black birch and eastern hemlock. The more than 500 species of plants here include a variety of wildflowers, many of which can be found blooming during the warm weather months.

White tailed deer are abundant on and around the mountain. Other mammals include flying squirrel, red fox, eastern cottontail and raccoon. The forest birds include the great horned owl, pileated woodpecker, wild turkey and red shouldered hawk. During the spring and fall, many migratory species of songbirds can be found.

My plan to New Jersey was cancelled due to the bad and unpredictable weather. For an 30 min drive, i visited Frederick, an old town with old buildings and antique shops. Give me a malacca impression.

I like the scenic view when it snows. Maybe it is human nature that will be more appreciate to something we do not own. Walking on the snow just like stepping on the sandy beach. However, it is damn difficult to control the car.

Trip to Gaitherburg

I like Gaitherburg, a town tells a lot of stories and feel warm visiting. There are a lot nice aged buildings. It is very welcoming and I love the train station and walking in the breeze is very relaxing and enjoyable especially in the new year eve.

The city of Gaithersburg occupies 10 square miles in the heart of Montgomery County , Maryland . The southeastern border of the City lies just 13 miles from the northwestern border of Washington , D.C. , and 18 miles northwest of the U.S. Capitol Building. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 52,613. This city is located to the northwest of Rockville, Maryland, the county seat of Montgomery County. Gaithersburg was incorporated in 1878.
Gaitherburg is home to the neo-traditionalist new town of Kentlands, Maryland, designed by Andrés Duany and Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk.

The area was originally known to local inhabitants as Log Town. The first house within the current Gaithersburg was built by Benjamin Gaither in 1802, and the name was changed in his honor shortly afterward.

The railroad was brought to Gaithersburg in the 1850s, with the Gaither family helping to get the railroad to come.

In 1899, Gaithersburg was selected as one of six global locations for the construction of an International Latitude Observatory. The Gaithersburg Latitude Observatory is (as of 2004) the only National Historic Landmark in the City of Gaithersburg.

Just came to know that 2008 is 'Visit Kedah' and 'Visit Terengganu' year. So, in conjunction to the event, do spent some time to pay the rice-bowl of Malaysia a visit. If you like nature, such you will not be disappointed with the utter serenity and greenery of the paddy field.

History Of Kedah

Recorded history of Kedah often starts at the Bujang Valley, located in central Kedah. This maritime kingdom at Bujang was visited by Indian, Persian, Arabs and Chinese traders as far back as the 4th century CE/ AD(CE: Common Era).

For many centuries, the Empires of Sri Vijaya and later the Cholas all exerted their influence and domination over this Kingdom. Kedah Peak (Gunung Jerai), at 1217 metres, provided the navigational landmark for ships in the Malacca Strait. The Bujang Valley was a collecting centre for products of the Malay Peninsular and a transit trading post for ships awaiting the change of currents and monsoon winds of the Indian Ocean. Traders soon propagated Hinduism and Buddhism and their culture, building shrines and temples along the coastal area, evident from artefacts found at the valley.

（首邦市訊）國家動物園的花豹獸性大發，從籠子伸出“豹爪”爪傷一名首次參觀動物園的5歲女童，導致她的上顎、唇部及背部受傷。

這起罕見的意外是週六（12月22日）約4時許發生，受害者侯芊彤當時與哥哥接近籠子參觀花豹時，花豹曾2次嘗試捉住他們，首次嘗試無法得逞，但第2次再伸出豹爪成功捉住妹妹的衣服。

受害者侯芊彤的母親說，丈夫雖然立即衝過去救女兒，但是女兒的身體已經被爪傷，而花豹也馬上放手跑掉。

她說，這個花豹參觀區沒有水池、指示牌或其他安全欄桿，參觀者可自由接近。

How do you reply 'Thank you'?

When people say 'Thank you' to you, how do you reply and what is the correct way to reply?
All the while, i have been saying 'You're welcome' and wrongly typed 'You're welcomed' in my recent email. Does it make any differences?

From simple Googling, how out the following.

The two phrases have different meanings.

The proper phrase, "You are welcome" says that the person is welcome to whatever you have given them.

The other phrase, "You are welcomed", which is not generally used, implies that the person is being welcomed to wherever they are, as in "we are welcoming you into this place". Notice that the sentence does not say who is doing the welcoming, only who is receiving the welcome. It's an awkward phrase and should not be used, even when you are truly welcoming someone to a particular place.

So, when someone thanks you, just say "you're welcome" and if you want to welcome them to some place, then say "welcome to my ..."

- Not at all.
- Sure.
- Please don't mention.

Yesterday was Perl 20th birthday. Perl 5.10 was released in conjunction to the birthday.
Perl 5.10 full of new features that i am yet to test out. Features like named captures in regular expressions, state variables for subroutines, the defined-or operator, a switch statement (called given-when, though), a faster regex engine, and more. Isn't it coool?

GMAIL new features - Colored Labels and AIM

I am impressed with recent new features by GMAIL.
a) New Coloured Labels
b) AIM chats

The former offer a useful and unique visualization for me to easily differentiate the source of my mails. Was using GreaseMonkey from Better Gmail, but not functional with new upgrade of GMAIL. However, we are blessed with the latest cool features. Do try to organize your mail with this feature.

For IM, great to see the AIM has been added in Gtalk and wonder will the the other services MSN, Yahoo IM will be added. Maybe not ......

Out of sudden, a friend of mine just posted me a question about Malaysia and i suddenly realized that there are so many facts that i have neglected about my own country. This is what i found out recently.

Do you know that the total surface of the earth is about 510,065,284 km square and about 70.8% water coverage and only 29.2% land coverage. That makes up to 148,939,063 km square of the land area. The top 8 largest countries are Russia, Canada, China, US, Brazil followed by Australia, India, Argentina.

Malaysia? She is the 67th largest countries in the world with 329,847 km square (0.22% of the earth). Not bad also lah. By the way, there should be 232 countries in the world. We have 27,544,000 of population which is 43rd largest in the world. KL itself has 2 million people.

The smallest country in the world is Vatican City (near Rome), 0.44 km square. That's why it is still retained the city name. Population less than 1,000.

New car seat

Babies grown up very quickly. The old car seat which is 6 months old cannot fit her any longer. She looks uncomfortable and stuffy when sitting in it. The mummy bought her a new car seat today. Looks like this one will be able to accommodate her up to 2-3 years old. Hello, parents to-be or new parents, you might consider to go for a bigger car seat for your beloved babies as it is not a good investment.

There was a voltage overflow at my residential area at Puchong yesterday. This has damaged a lot of my electrical appliances. Following are the items that was damaged:

My dear wife has lodge the report at TNB Bandar Baru Bangi. The staff was saying that we can reimburse the lost. We have to keep the receipt for the repair. However i am doubt that there will be a full reimbursement.

This will cost me a bom again. Is any of you ever encounter this problem? Any comments?

Kinda worry to see my baby have the constipation problem. Just worry that the stool is getting harder and firmer. Googling around and just to share the following notes... I am trying it out.

What can you do to treat constipation?
Massage your baby's tummy
Start at the belly button and then massage outwards in circles in a clockwise direction. Some oil or cream on your fingers can also help.
Only continue if your baby enjoys the massage and is comfortable and relaxed.

Move your baby's legs in a cycling motion
Place your baby so he or she is lying on their back. Hold their legs and turn them gently in a quick cycling motion.
This will make the stomach muscles move and, in turn, put gentle pressure on the intestines to make them move.

Give your baby a bath
A warm bath can make your baby relax so the stools are passed more easily. Once your baby has relaxed in the bath, you can also massage their stomach (see above).
When you wash your baby's bottom, apply some cream or petroleum jelly (Vaseline) around the outside of the anus.

Don't use a thermometer to stimulate movement
Don't put a thermometer or anything else inside your baby's anus to stimulate bowel movement, because this may cause damage.

Check you are making formula correctly
If your baby is on formula milk, you should follow the instructions on the package carefully. Making the mixture too thick by putting in more than the recommended amount of powder can lead to constipation and other medical problems.
There are different brands of formula milk on the market, and they are basically of equal quality. It's best to stick to the same brand, because different formulas may require different dilutions.

It's common to hear that new born baby getting 'colic'. Eventually, will make the baby uneasy and end up with crying.... Newly promoted to father status person like me definitely heart-breaking to see them crying.
I was introduced a bottle at Mum's care outlet, Alamanda Putrajaya. Dr Brown's. It has a patented design specially address the colic problems in infant.
Surprisingly, it is very effective...... and my daughter like it so much. She can finished it faster and ask for more. Obviously reduced the colic.
As a new father for not more than a month, dare not comment too much. But it worth a try. Slightly expensive.

The mummy did a lot of researches on the naming for the baby during second trimester. These are a few name candidates and finally all her grandma, grandpa and daddy prefer the SHYUAN.

Half day trip to Colmar Tropicale

Nothing special to do on the first day of the year. Paid Colmar Tropicale, french village a visit. Well, half a day trip but quite enjoyable as we didn't expect much from the trip. Relatively short journey, 60 min drive from Puchong. Entrance fees, RM16/adult; RM8/child.
Finally, my Nikon Coolpix that has taken 9777 pics said bye-bye to us. Lucky enough we are able to retrieve all the pic from the memory card. :)
Wondering whether should go for D-SLR or VideoCam.... still thinking.

Kenny G is No. 1 on Golf Digest's ranking of the `Top 100 in Music'

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Saxophonist Kenny G has more to brag about than his world-class horn-playing. He's now the best golfer among music-makers, according to Golf Digest's ranking of the "Top 100 in Music.''
The Grammy winner beats out country stars Vince Gill, Marty Roe and Steve Azar, and No Doubt drummer Adrian Young, who round out the top 5. The list also includes Bob Dylan (No. 63), Snoop Dogg (No. 44) and fellow sax player Branford Marsalis (No. 29).
The list will be published Tuesday on the magazine's Web site, as well as in its December issue, on newsstands Nov. 7. The ranking is based on handicaps, some official, some not-so-official. Kenny G's handicap is a plus-0.6, meaning his average score is better than par. And he tells the magazine he still needs improvement.
"With the sax, I learned technique well enough so that it feels like part of my body and I just express myself,'' he said. "That's where I want to get in golf.''
Gill, a scratch golfer (0 handicap), said, "musicians and golfers understand each other.''
"We know what it takes to have to perform,'' he said. "We know there is a lot of alone time.''
Rocker Alice Cooper, who ranked 11th on the list with a 5.3 handicap, said playing golf helped him kick his drug habit.
"Golf is the crack of sports,'' he told the magazine. "Once I took it seriously, I loved it. It absolutely saved my life.''
Other stars on the Golf Digest rankings include Justin Timberlake (No. 15), Englebert Humperdinck (23), Celine Dion (62), Nick Lachey (95) and Pink (100). - AP

This has been a hot debating issue in Malaysia now. Actually what is Beta Agonist?

長肉劑（Beta-Agonist）等類固醇真正的功用是治療哮喘，副作用則是把油脂轉化成肌肉。由於市場對瘦肉的需求高，因此一些豬農以違法方式養出瘦肉比例較高的豬隻。
除以長肉劑餵豬外，要培養高瘦肉比例的豬隻還有兩種方法，即配種和改善豬隻的營養攝取。但由於配種需要很長的時間，而改善營養成本高，造成一些豬農選擇快速價廉的方法，就是餵豬吃長肉劑。
長肉劑中所含的一種荷爾蒙成份，在人體過度吸引後，會導致細胞異變而產生癌症。不論是對動物或人類，長肉劑的破壞是可怕的。這種荷爾蒙會不斷刺激正常的細胞，在過度刺激，細胞會分裂成一團，過後併發癌症。
如果是豬隻服用長肉劑，豬肉的細胞將不正常，再經人體吸收，就對人體造成破壞。
研究顯示，長肉劑對人體可能構成的破壞包括：導致癌細胞的產生，破壞人體的免疫力，令一般的抗生素失效。
此外，它也會使到身體各器官衰弱、破壞中樞神經的功能、導致心臟病和心臟跳動不規律、頭痛；精神衰弱、焦慮及混亂；肌肉痙攣及抽筋、肌肉下垂及失去彈性、食物中毒。

蔡細歷也抨擊喜歡使用長肉劑（beta agonist）的豬農，罔顧人命。他說，含有長肉劑的豬肉，足以導致心臟病患者及血壓高病患者身亡。他也表示，衛生部將與農業部協調，以商討如何制止豬肉含長肉劑問題。他說，衛生部最近已批准其他的藥物（Racdpobamine）取代長肉劑（beta agonist），此藥物對人體沒有副作用，但價錢卻高出3倍。
“豬農喜歡用長肉劑，是因為可以使豬肉長得更‘美’，少肥肉，但長肉劑卻對人體有副作用，足以令心臟病及血壓高病患者身亡。” 他也說，根據一項例常報告顯示，在2000年，豬肉含長肉劑的巴仙率為49.5%，而在執法人員嚴格“管制”下，2006年，豬肉含長肉劑的巴仙率降至0.89%。

Bank Safe, no longer safe

Bank safe vault raided, valuables worth RM500,000 taken
SERI KEMBANGAN: It was a bountiful Hari Raya for burglars who drilled into a bank safe deposit vault and escaped with over RM500,000 worth of jewellery and other valuables.
Taking advantage of the long festive break, the burglars broke into the Public Bank branch here, just like a similar case at Cheras in 1995.
It is learnt that the security alarm did not go off. With no security guards to worry about, the burglars then put their drills and tools to good use at the second floor of the five-storey building. They drilled and hacked a 31cm hole to get to the floor below where the vault was located.
Using a rope, the burglars slid down to the first floor and forced open 92 of the 708 safe deposit boxes, with the use of sharp objects and hammers. The exact date and time of the break-in has yet to be ascertained.

It happened again. Remember there was the same incident happened in March 1995, a gang dubbed as the “Tunnel Rats” drilled into the vault of a Mayban Finance Bhd branch in Taman Cheras, emptying about 640 safety deposit boxes of cash, jewellery and share certificates worth RM30mil? It only happened one year ago. Anyway, it is not only happening in Malaysia. DBS bank in Hong Kong also encountered the same incident 2 years ago.

Where else should we keep our valueable belongings? :)

KUALA LUMPUR: Just a day after meeting Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad renewed his criticism of the Prime Minister.The former prime minister also said he was not satisfied with, or convinced by, Abdullah's responses to issues he had raised at their meeting on Sunday, which he had earlier described as a “worthwhile” discussion.Dr Mahathir said the explanations he was dissatisfied with included those pertaining to his criticism of Abdullah's son-in-law Khairy Jamaluddin and his son Kamaluddin.

At the same time, Johor Sultan Iskandar Ibni Almarhum Sultan Ismail has called on Johoreans to continue supporting PakLah.

JOHOR: In an impromptu speech in front of about 300 people including VIPs after performing prayers at the Sultan Abu Bakar Mosque at 9am, the Sultan said that both Abdullah and his predecessor Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad were his friends. However, he said that Dr Mahathir had already retired and should not interfere with the Government. The speech, which lasted for about five minutes, is the first time a state ruler has come out in public to defend the present administration.
